Audubon’s Bird Migration Explorer is an incredible tool that allows you to connect with birds in a whole new way. Whether you're passionate about songbirds, raptors, or shorebirds, this interactive platform brings migration routes to life, letting you track your favorite flyers across the Americas.
Simply enter the species you're interested in, and witness firsthand the incredible distances traveled as birds move between summer nesting and breeding grounds, wintering habitats, and everywhere in between.
As they navigate vast landscapes, birds encounter numerous obstacles, from habitat loss to climate change to light pollution. The Bird Migration Explorer not only lets you follow birds throughout their life cycles, but also highlights the many challenges they face along the way.
Dive into the Bird Migration Explorer story map to learn more about this amazing tool and be sure to check out one of our Bird Migration Explorer kiosks located in the lobby of the Visitor Center the next time you’re here.
Track Bird Activity at the John James Audubon Center
The Motus tower at the John James Audubon Center is part of a collaborative research network using cutting-edge radio telemetry to collect data on migratory animals, including birds.
Motus towers are equipped with radio receivers that pick-up signals sent by birds “tagged” with small, lightweight transmitters. These signals allow researchers to track birds in real-time, following their movements across vast distances.
Data collected from Motus towers like ours feeds directly into the Bird Migration Explorer. This information not only helps us track the pathways of birds more accurately, but it also provides insight into shifting migration patterns and supports conservation efforts to keep birds safe.
Visit our Motus Dashboard to monitor bird activity at Mill Grove and get to know the tagged birds who fly close enough for us to pick up their signals.

Keep an eye on our Events page for programs and special events where you can learn more about the Bird Migration Explorer, Motus towers, and how you can take action to protect our feathered friends.
